Instructions

This is the soul of South Indian cuisine — a perfectly balanced lentil stew where tanginess, spice, and aroma come together. With SAACOOR Sambar Powder, you get consistent flavor, depth, and restaurant-quality taste every time.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Serves: 3–4

Method (Detailed)

Wash the toor dal thoroughly until water runs clear. Pressure cook with turmeric, oil, and water for 3–4 whistles until soft.
Mash the dal well until smooth.
In a separate pot, add vegetables and enough water. Cook until vegetables are just tender — not mushy.
Add the cooked dal to the vegetables and mix well.
Add SAACOOR Sambar Powder, salt, and tamarind pulp. Mix thoroughly and let it simmer on medium flame for 8–10 minutes. This step is crucial as it develops the spice flavor.
If the sambar becomes too thick, add hot water to adjust consistency.

Tempering (Final Step)
Heat oil or ghee in a small pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add cumin seeds, red chillies, curry leaves, and hing. Let everything crackle.
Pour this hot tempering directly over the simmering sambar and cover immediately for 2 minutes.

Serving Suggestions
Serve hot with idli, dosa, or steamed rice with ghee.

Chef Insight
The magic of sambar lies in slow simmering after adding SAACOOR Sambar Powder — never rush this stage.
